Description

Gilding Wax is particularly good for bringing out ornate carvings and mouldings, enhancing texture and detailing. You can use it on furniture, but you might want to try it on decorative items such as a lamp base or picture frame too. Step by step guide to using gilding wax on furniture So to do it, I’m just going to put a little bit on my finger… a tiny bit and then I’m going to start wiping just to show up the relief. And because there’s quite a bit of texture in the paint, it’s not applying it flatly, which is perfect. Within 15 minutes you can apply a second coat of paint, after an hour it is touch dry and after 2 hours it is safe to handle. The paint will be fully set and dry after 3 hours. Is it easy to clean up? If you love the gilded look, but are nervous about gilding with gold leaf, look no further. This technique couldn’t be easier with the help of Annie Sloan Gilding Wax. Gold, copper or silver – choose a metallic to match your chosen Chalk Paint™ colour and then all you need to apply the wax is a lint-free cloth or a small brush. For this particular technique, Annie used two gilding wax colours – a lighter gold on the raised areas and darker in the recesses – for a more three-dimensional or contoured look.

Want to know how to use gilding wax? Annie Sloan Gilding Wax can be applied with a lint-free cloth or a brush. It is a finishing product, so should be applied after Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax. See how Annie does it by watching this handy tutorial. You can also read our Gilding Wax Fact Sheet. Paint your piece of furniture in Chalk Paint® moving your brush in every direction for a textured finish. Paint the gold mirror frame with chalk paint. Be sure to get into all of the nooks and crannies on the raised details. Let dry at least 30 minutes and apply a second coat. Allow the wax to cure (harden) before use. It will be touch dry within 24 hours, but will take up to 2 weeks to fully harden. You can use it during this time, just be gentle. Available in 15ml tubes in five colours: Warm Gold, Bright Gold, Bright Silver, Dark Silver and Copper.

Tips & How To's

Rub n’ Buff is not recommended for outdoor use as it is not waterproof and may deteriorate when exposed to moisture. Can I Use Rub n’ Buff on Metal for an Antique Gold Finish? Stir your pot thoroughly prior to use to ensure the colour is properly mixed. If applying by brush, apply evenly following the grain of the wood. If rolling, use a short nap mohair roller. So that’s too much. So you’re gonna spread that out a long way, so a small amount of wax does go a long way. I’ll take my cloth and very lightly, not going mad. I’m just removing any excess, that’s all there is. Many thanks to Eileen from Just Measuring Up and Megan from Two Feet First for hosting this challenge.

Contrary to popular belief, chalk paint is incredibly versatile and can be used to paint fabrics as well as furniture and vases. Almost any chalk paint will work well on fabric, but we prefer Country Chic, because it is inexpensive and comes in more than 50 different colors. Not sure how much Gilding Wax you need? Annie Sloan Gilding Wax has concentrated metallic colour for extended coverage – in every tube there’s enough wax to cover a standard dining room chair – approximately 1.7 square metres. Paint your piece of furniture in Chalk Paint™ moving your brush in every direction for a textured finish. If you love the gilded look, but are nervous about gilding with gold leaf, look no further. Apply Annie Sloan Gilding Wax in two colours (e.g. Bright Gold and Warm Gold) building up the wax in layers for an authentic, uneven look. Each piece of furniture you can’t just go from rule of thumb. I’d start with a medium and then maybe go on to the coarse one. So I’m just going to gently sand that and work out how far I want to go. Now I find I’m having to rub harder than I want, so I want more to come out so I’m going to use the coarse one now. And very gently – shouldn’t be hard – do you see what’s happened? It’s revealed some of the Giverny there. So I’m going to go more
