About this deal

An HP spokesperson confirmed that this limitation is inherited from the earlier-generation HP Sprocket Studio, which connects using Bluetooth only and is no longer being manufactured. That said, creating custom stickers doesn’t work as well as we would have hoped, and the need for a slightly bulky power supply means this Sprocket isn’t really a "go-anywhere device" like HP's other instant printers.

For nearly a decade, Bill focused on printer and scanner technology and reviews for PCMag, and wrote about computer technology since well before the advent of the internet. If you’re OK with printing exclusively from an app, then the HP Sprocket Studio Plus is a fine choice, but it’s not necessarily the most cost-effective one.Choose from 8 colors of paper photo frames, and use one of the colored magnetic clothespins to hang the masterpiece from the included twine or affix to your fridge. Bundle: 1 HP Sprocket Select printer, 1 Zink Paper 20 pack, Markers Set, Stickers Set, 1 Scrapbook Album, Scissors set, Washi tape set. Get creative with colors, patterns, stickers, and other scrapbooking essentials while resilient PVC- and acid-free paper keeps your work bright, bold and beautiful for years to come. I found it a little confusing to set up—and harder than setting it up to print via Bluetooth to other HP Sprocket printers— largely because the app guided me though two separate connection steps.

For youngsters who aren't as invested in quality, but who need something a bit more hardwearing, Zink printers are a great option. The HP Sprocket Crystal Heart Display features adorable pink crystal accents that add a special touch to those memorable moments. Use the Polaroid Mint app to make stylish adjustments to your photos, and you’ll find the printer is not only helpful but fun to use as well, as a Polaroid should be. This simple physical design makes the Sprocket Studio incredibly easy to use, and it’s a simplicity that’s carried on into the app and when printing photos. HP referred to this functionality as "augmented reality" in my briefing about this product, but it's nothing like Lifeprint's feature of the same name, in which the actual content of the photo changes, or at least appears to. A newer version, the Instax Mini Link 2, adds some fun extra features – but is essentially the same printer, so save money by going for the original.

The HP Sprocket Studio is a fresh take on the company’s portable photo printer line, but instead of wallet-sized 2 x 3-inch prints, this spits out glossy 4 x 6-inch photos.

Choose from Luna Pearl (an off-white), Lilac (very pretty purple), or Blush (pinky-peach); the dark and mysterious Noir shade will be released in the near future. The HP Sprocket printer paper is available in a unique format that lets you use them as normal, or peel the back away to reveal a sticker design. This is not to say that my test photos weren't nice-looking and completely recognizable, but several of them were not of the same vibrant and highly detailed quality you'd get from a photo-centric inkjet—such as, say, the printers in HP's Envy Photo line of machines. Don't miss out on the chance to make a collage, do a photobooth, create a photo ID, and so much more.
