Upon that machine," said the Time Traveller, holding the lamp aloft, "I intend to explore time. Is that plain? I was never more serious in my life." Nice to have a female protagonist who is relatively fearless and inventive in her solutions. Pity the whole thing had this "Seen it before but better" feeling. This book helped me to understand more about war and I would really like to read more books by this author. The bit that I found really funny was when Tilly pretends to be the police!

Tilly and the Time Machine by Adrian Edmondson review
Children’s publishing is awash with books written by celebrities. In the space of a few weeks this spring, Cara Delevingne, Dermot O’Leary, Alesha Dixon and George Galloway announced debut kids’ books. Meanwhile non-multi-tasking, professional authors complain about celebs cannibalising their marketing budgets and swallowing huge advances. Start by writing down some facts you know then try to find a few more try them out on your friends or family. Learning about history was fun in this book - Tilly went on lots of using her Dad's time machine. I liked it when Tilly was in the Victorian era and met the Queen! I felt sad that Tilly's Mum had died and thought she managed on her own really well. I would recommend this book to my friends Role play an imaginary conversation between Tilly and one of the characters in the story eg Queen Victoria or Mr Wormwood, the chimney sweep. Draw a picture

This was a great way to learn about the Victorians. There are interesting facts just like a normal history book but you find them out as part of time travelling story instead so it makes it more interesting. It also has good characters to and you want to know more about Tilly. I like the way that the book has been written. The author writes in a way and uses words that young people would want to read. Tilly and the Time Machine Chapter Fifteen Year 3 and Year 4 Whole Class Guided Reading Comprehension But Dad isn't there in the morning - or after school. Tilly knows she has to go and find him. Dad has programmed interesting times and events through history into the machine and Tilly follows him onto a ship being cannonballed, a world cup football match, up victorian chimneys and to her own 6th birthday party. Will she ever catch up to him? Tilly is a resourceful little girl (there's a Home Alone moment when 'men' come for her dad's time machine and she decides to defend it), and the story is suitable for those around her age (7) as well as a little older.
