Speculative and dystopian fiction is my least favourite genre, yet I was utterly blown away by this book.

It explores who we are, what we are for, how (or if) we choose our respective paths in life, and what it even means to be alive, and it also powerfully shows us how all of these things fall away in the face of love, however and wherever we find it. He was quiet, unassuming, uncertain, His vulnerability was endearing, but with a sadness that intrigued.It was a mesmerising story that almost shows the reader a glimpse of what could be in both a lovely and terrifying way. It begins with Ezra sitting nervously in a room labelled as "Record label HQ, London" while holding a white disk with "Pretty Shining People Demo George Ezra" written on it in permanent marker. A lyric video to accompany the release of "Pretty Shining People" was first released onto YouTube on 2 March 2019 at a total length of three minutes and forty-one seconds. It starts out calm and chilled but with a twist of anguish from the secret shame John is hiding, then the air fills with the flush of first love as he and Neotina get closer, before moving into an atmosphere that crackles with danger as shocking revelations change their entire world. Both John and Neotnia, in different ways, have issues with their bodies which they feel sets them apart from others.

to the dog Inu to that developing, tender relationship between Neotnia and John (and its inevitable strains and collapses).This is a true thinkers/intellectuals book at its heart, with a sci-fi element thrown in, and it was glorious. Part science fiction, part love story, part coming-of-age story, part dystopian, part thriller, Beautiful Shining People is a novel like no other with something for each and every reader.
