Description

This book has revolutionised the way I deal with being triggered, I don’t get it right every time but I’m getting a better handle on my anxiety and alarm. The self-awareness and aliveness it evokes is sheer magic, the way you connect back to yourself, namely the younger self, the younger wounded self, that still lives in your energy field as residual energy, just waiting to be processed and addressed, waiting for the attention and needs that weren't met in the past by our caregivers, to be met now, by the more wiser part of you. Also, I couldn't get past his endless reference to LSD (and other mind altering drugs) as the key to his personal anxiety cure. Full of truth and humor, Anxiety Rx takes the reader on a healing journey, with a deep dive into Dr. It has no real identifiable structure within each part, and it feels like one person droning on about his own personal experiences.

Making unconscious conscious and showing compassion to your inner child because s/he didn’t know any better, will release trauma and suffering. Although I’ll talk about my patient’s experiences with anxiety as well as my own, everything within these chapters has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life. He really knows his stuff because not only is he a doctor but he had really bad anxiety for decades and figured out how to heal himself.Unraveling the intricate relationship between anxiety, the body, and the mind, Anxiety Rx offers a profound path toward healing and growth.

I wrote this book to make my father's suicide and the suffering of my family mean something: to help others who experienced chronic worry to understand and fix the pain that is sucking the life out of them. his science is rooted in outdated Freudian Id, Ego, Superego and he pulls a few quotes from Carl Jung. Russell Kennedy, MD is a physician, neuroscientist, certified yoga and meditation teacher, and a professional stand-up comedian. As a father himself he had violent rages often that seemed to come from nowhere to me as a child, removing internal doors off hinges and throwing them out into the yard, just because maybe it wasn’t closed when it should be or someone had hung a coat over it?I don’t begrudge him the potential of these drugs, but a lot of his musings about it feel esoteric and not particularly grounded in reality. with all my will to get the help I needed I tried to take my own life because I felt I was beyond all help.

The book is quite different from the "change your thoughts" school of anxiety relief that 99% of anxiety books seem to follow.

for the first time that space I craved and taught as a yoga teacher, and a highly practiced Breathwork and mediator since my teens, I realize is the space between my thoughts and my feelings and how I can meet myself there with a choice. Initially, I was excited to hear an “alternative” perspective on anxiety as a mental health professional who leads an anxiety coping skills group for college students. Using a combination of neuroscience, somatic work and psychedelics, I’ve uncovered a brand new way of approaching and healing anxiety in myself and my patients. What Anxiety Rx did for me was to distill wisdom I had learned from other sources into actionable steps that I could implement immediately. And how our body and mind cope with trauma and overwhelm and how we operate while coping and also how we can recover.

I have degrees and advanced training in medicine, neuroscience, and developmental psychology, but much of what I'll share came out of my experiences in very unscientific places.

Winner of the 2020 Nautilus Award in Psychology **Anxiety Is Suffering Is Optional “Anxiety Rx is unlike any book on anxiety and a must-read for anyone who suffers with chronic worry. I am so thankful for this book, i dread to think of where I would be now without it as things were only getting worse. He is married to Somatic Trauma Therapist Cynthia Solylo-Kennedy and is father to two step-sons, one daughter, two grandkids, and two Labradoodles. My dad has always lovingly helped me with my own anxiety and I have learned more about relieving it from him than from any other means bar none.
